Responsible Gambling
Gambling should be entertainment — never a source of income or a way to recover losses. This page provides resources for Ontarian players who want to stay in control or get help.
Warning Signs of Problem Gambling
Problem gambling can affect anyone. Warning signs include:
- Spending more money than you can afford to lose
- Chasing losses — gambling more to try to win back what you lost
- Lying to family or friends about your gambling activity
- Gambling instead of meeting financial obligations
- Feeling anxious or irritable when not gambling
- Using gambling as a way to escape stress or problems
- Borrowing money to fund gambling
If you recognise any of these signs in yourself or someone you know, please reach out for help.
Tools Available at Licensed Casinos
All casinos listed on Casino Wingmen are licensed by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and are required to provide responsible gambling tools:
- Deposit limits — set daily, weekly, or monthly limits on how much you can deposit
- Stake limits — cap the maximum stake per spin or hand
- Time-out — take a short break from your account (24 hours to 6 weeks)
- Self-exclusion — exclude yourself from a casino for a minimum of 6 months
- Reality checks — pop-up reminders showing how long you have been playing
To access these tools, log in to your account and visit the Responsible Gambling or Account Settings section, or contact the casino's support team.
Self-Exclusion in Canada
BetGuard is Ontario's centralized self-exclusion tool, launched in May 2026 by iGaming Ontario. Registering once blocks you from every regulated online gaming site in Ontario — including OLG — through a single portal, for a term you choose: 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, or a custom period.
To self-exclude across the whole regulated market:
- Register free at BetGuard.ca — you don't need an existing gambling account, just government photo ID
- Call ConnexOntario on 1-866-531-2600 for support before, during, or after
- Visit connexontario.ca
Once activated, a BetGuard exclusion can be extended or renewed, but cannot be shortened or cancelled before the term ends. This is intentional — it gives you time to focus on recovery. Operators must still offer their own self-exclusion tools in addition to BetGuard.
Where You Can Play
You must be physically located in Ontario to play. Operators use geolocation to confirm your location; you can manage your account from outside the province but can only play while in Ontario.
Regulated Ontario operators use geolocation technology to confirm you are physically in the province before you can play. You can manage your account from elsewhere, but wagering is only available while you are located in Ontario.
